Gathering of industry-leading projects

Roche, one of the Fortune 500 enterprises, set up its first manufacturing facility in SIP in 2015, and since then has expanded its investment in the industrial park for several times, which has led to the recent establishment of the Asia-Pacific R&D center and the introduction of several advanced production lines and projects to SIP. Following that, a cluster of over 100 in-vitro diagnosis (IVD) products enterprises have formed in SIP.

SIP has provided great support for Roche’s projects, including helping it acquire raw materials and go through the administrative process for product registration. Now, Roche’s development in SIP has become an epitome of SIP’s efforts to foster a world-leading medical device industry chain.

In addition to Roche, SIP has attracted many world-famous companies. Olympus, a Japanese medical equipment maker, set up a medical device manufacturing base in SIP last year, manufacturing its staple products outside Japan for the first time.

The openness of SIP has allowed it to attract resources from around the globe, which has laid a good foundation for the development of the medical device industry.

Double wheels to drive the industry

In SIP, opening-up and innovation are well integrated. International cooperation has allowed multinationals to accelerate localization in SIP, and local enterprises to gain advanced concepts, technologies and experience.

The cooperation between Johnson & Johnson and Chinese Academy of Sciences’ Suzhou Institute of Nano-tech and Nano-bionics in medical coating technology has entered the third phase, and both Eli Lilly and Company and Danaher have made investments in biomedicine enterprises in SIP.

Efforts to build an assisted reproductive technology industry chain

SIP does its utmost to meet medical devices enterprises’ needs and alleviate burdens on them, aiming to enhance the stability and competitiveness of the whole industry chain.

Institutional innovation to alleviate burdens on enterprises

SIP Customs’ suggestion of setting a temporary tariff rate for import of special detectors for X-ray tomograph was adopted by the Customs Tariff Committee of the State Council so that importers can reduce cost by 4.5% to 3%.

The Yanyida, a set of measures for administration of import of unregistered medical devices, has been practiced in the free trade zone in SIP since 2020 to lift restrictions for enterprises to import from overseas medical devices that are not registered in the country for use in R&D activities.

Pro-business services to fuel innovation

SIP authorities offer “agent services” to provide one-on-one assistance in project initiation, land use right transfer and other aspects.
